fusion
A lightweight, self-hosted friendly RSS reader
The Lens

Fusion is a self-hosted RSS reader that does one job: show you your feeds. You get unread tracking, bookmarks, search, feed groups, OPML import and Google Reader-style keyboard shortcuts in a clean web app you can install on your phone as a PWA. No AI features, on purpose. It's MIT licensed and free, with no paid tier.
Setup is about as easy as self-hosting gets. It ships as a single binary with SQLite built in, or one Docker container: set a password, run it, open port 8080. It speaks the Fever API, so apps like Reeder and Unread can sync with it, and OIDC login is there if you already run an identity provider. Solo: free and nearly zero maintenance. Teams: wrong tool.
The catch: it's single-user. One password, one reading list, no accounts to hand out. Miniflux is just as lean and adds multiple users plus a Google Reader API on top of Fever; FreshRSS is multi-user too and takes extensions. Fusion is also mostly one maintainer working with coding agents, and the project asks for issues, not pull requests.
Free vs Self-Hosted vs Paid
fully freeFree: Everything. MIT-licensed RSS/Atom reader with unread tracking, bookmarks (saved as content snapshots), full-text search, feed groups, feed auto-discovery, OPML import, keyboard shortcuts, PWA install, Fever API for third-party clients, OIDC login, and per-feed refresh intervals (v1.3.0). No hosted service, no paid edition.
Self-hosted: A single prebuilt binary for Linux, macOS and Windows (amd64 and arm64) or the ghcr.io/0x2e/fusion Docker image, with SQLite as the only datastore. Set FUSION_PASSWORD and open port 8080. Put it behind a reverse proxy with TLS if it faces the internet. Single-user: one password (or one OIDC identity) and one shared reading list.
Paid: No paid tier. The only cost is wherever you host it; the README links community-maintained one-click deploys on Fly.io and Railway.
Free with no paid tier; the only bill is the small box or container you run it on.
What to do by team size
- Solo
- free; one binary or one container
- Small team
- free, but single-user, so each person runs their own instance or the team uses Miniflux
- Medium team
- not a fit: no multi-user accounts; look at Miniflux or FreshRSS
- Large team
- not a fit: no multi-user accounts; look at Miniflux or FreshRSS
