worldmonitor
Real-time global intelligence dashboard. AI-powered news aggregation, geopolitical monitoring, and infrastructure tracking in a unified situational awareness interface
The Lens
World Monitor is a real-time global intelligence dashboard. It pulls hundreds of news feeds, plots events on a 3D globe and a flat map, scores country risk, and tracks financial markets, all in one situational-awareness interface. AGPL-3.0 and free, with optional local AI through Ollama so you can run the analysis without sending anything to an API.
Setup is refreshingly light for what it does. Clone it, npm install, npm run dev, and it runs locally with no required keys. Optional API credentials unlock live extras like flight and market data. There are desktop builds via Tauri and several themed variants (tech, finance, energy) if you want a focused view. Standing it up for yourself is genuinely a weekend-or-less project.
This is a niche tool, but a polished one. If you want an OSINT-style dashboard for situational awareness, market watching, or just an impressive wall display, it delivers without a subscription. It is not a Bloomberg terminal and does not pretend to be. Treat it as a self-hosted aggregation and visualization layer, not a verified source of truth.
The catch is the AGPL license and the data quality. AGPL means if you build a hosted product on top of this, you owe your users the source code. And the dashboard is only as good as the feeds behind it, so treat the AI summaries as leads to verify, not facts to act on.
Free vs Self-Hosted vs Paid
fully freeFree: The whole project is open source under AGPL-3.0. All views, both map engines, risk scoring, and the financial radar are included. Local AI runs through Ollama with no API keys.
Self-hosted: This is the intended way to run it, and it is light: a standard Node and Vite setup, no required credentials. Optional keys add live flight and market data.
Paid: No paid product tier. The maintainer notes that a separate commercial license is available as an alternative to AGPL for teams that cannot meet the copyleft obligations.
Free and self-hostable. A polished niche dashboard, not a verified intelligence source. Watch the AGPL license if you build on it.
