World Monitor is a real-time global intelligence dashboard. It pulls hundreds of news feeds, plots events on a 3D globe and a flat map, scores country risk, and tracks financial markets in one situational-awareness interface. The core is AGPL-3.0 and self-hostable, with optional local AI through Ollama so analysis never leaves your machine.
Self-hosted setup is still light: clone, npm install, npm run dev, no required keys, with desktop builds via Tauri. But the project has grown a commercial layer fast. There's now a limited free tier and paid plans: Pro at $39.99/mo, Pro Business at $49.99/mo, and API access from $99.99/mo, with entitlement checks enforced in the code. Pricing moved more than once this summer, so check the current page before budgeting.
Self-hosters who want an OSINT-style wall display or a market watch still get a lot for free. Treat it as an aggregation and visualization layer, not a verified intelligence source: the AI summaries are leads to verify, not facts to act on.
The catch: the free-to-paid boundary is actively shifting, and AGPL means a hosted product built on this owes users its source. A dashboard whose pricing moved twice in a month is telling you the business model is still being worked out.
Free vs Self-Hosted vs Paid
open coreFree: The AGPL core, self-hosted. Clone and run with npm, no required API keys; optional keys unlock live flight and market extras. A limited free tier exists on the hosted side.
Paid: Pro $39.99/mo, Pro Business $49.99/mo, API Starter $99.99/mo, API Business $299.99/mo, with annual promotions in rotation. Prices changed twice in July alone, so verify before you commit.
The trade: Self-hosting keeps the dashboard free. The paid layer covers the hosted product and API access, with entitlements enforced in the product.
The self-hosted core is free under AGPL, but there's now a real paywall: Pro at $39.99/mo and API plans from $99.99/mo.
