Open Source Alternatives
Email marketing and automation platform with a built-in CRM.

ActiveCampaign's value is automation plus deliverability, and only the automation moves cleanly. Mautic is the closest open source match for the campaign and automation logic, but it is heavy to run. The harder part is deliverability: ActiveCampaign keeps your mail in the inbox, and self-hosting means you own IP warmup, SPF and DKIM, and bounce handling, or you pair the tool with a sending service. A small list can switch in a week; the hidden cost is the weeks of sending reputation you rebuild from zero.

Open source marketing automation platform.
Mautic is the open source answer to HubSpot Marketing Hub and Mailchimp. Email campaigns, drip sequences, lead scoring, customer segmentation, and full marketing automation, all without the per-contact pricing that makes the commercial stack expensive at scale.
High-performance, self-hosted newsletter manager
Linkwarden saves, organizes, and preserves web pages and bookmarks with automatic archiving so your links survive when pages go down. It's a single Go binary backed by Postgres that handles subscriber management, campaign creation, analytics, and sending, all through a clean web UI.
Open source email platform
Plunk handles both transactional emails (welcome emails, order confirmations) and marketing emails (newsletters, drip campaigns) from one open source platform you control. Self-host it, connect your SMTP or AWS SES, and you've got email infrastructure without paying per-email fees to Mailchimp or SendGrid.
Mautic replaces ActiveCampaign's automation and campaigns; Listmonk and Plunk handle high-volume sending with less overhead. What none of them replace is ActiveCampaign's deliverability operation, the team and infrastructure that keeps your mail out of spam. Self-host the software, but plan to own sending reputation or pair with a dedicated relay. For teams tired of per-contact pricing, the math still usually wins.
ActiveCampaign is a platform. It bundles multiple capabilities into one subscription. These tools each cover one piece. Teams often assemble 2–3 of them instead of paying for the full suite.
