What you gain

  • No per-MTU pricing that grows with your user base
  • Full access to raw event data without query limits
  • No event volume caps that force plan upgrades
  • Self-hosted deployment for data residency compliance

What you give up

  • No Amplitude Experiment for integrated A/B testing and feature flags
  • No Journeys for automated multi-step user flow visualization
  • No Amplitude CDP for real-time audience sync to ad platforms
  • No Govern for centralized taxonomy management across teams

Switching Cost

Amplitude's lock-in is the behavioral graph. Raw events can be exported, but the user journey mappings, computed behavioral cohorts, and cross-platform identity resolution don't come with them. The deeper issue is Amplitude Experiment: if you're running feature flags and A/B tests through Amplitude, switching means migrating both analytics and experimentation. Small teams can move in 2-3 days. Teams with active experiments and CDP syncs should budget 2-3 weeks. The hidden cost is rebuilding your taxonomy governance from scratch.

Building Blocks

Amplitude is a platform. It bundles multiple capabilities into one subscription. These tools each cover one piece. Teams often assemble 2–3 of them instead of paying for the full suite.
