Raven is an agent that manages other agents. Hand it a big job and it splits the work into a graph of steps, then gives each step to a specialist: its own four (research, code, design, oncall) or ones you already run, like Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode or GitHub Copilot. EverMind, the team behind the EverOS memory engine, ships it free under Apache-2.0.
Setup is one curl script that installs uv, Node.js, Raven, Chromium and, on macOS, LibreOffice. Then raven onboard adds a model provider and raven web opens the browser UI. Memory runs on a local EverOS server by default; EverMind's hosted EverOS Cloud is an optional plugin with no published pricing.
No paid tier; the real cost is tokens: every node in the graph spends your API budget, and the homepage benchmarks ran on Opus-5. Solo: free, worth an afternoon. Small teams: free, for experiments. Larger teams: wait.
The catch: the README calls it pre-alpha and warns that interfaces and configuration may change quickly. The self-improvement pitch and the state-of-the-art charts are EverMind's own numbers, the Curator that rewrites agents is experimental, and giving one young orchestrator command over several coding agents is a lot of trust.
Free vs Self-Hosted vs Paid
fully freeFree: Everything in the repo, Apache-2.0: the orchestrator, the four built-in agents (Raven-Research, Raven-Code, Raven-Design, Raven-Oncall), presets for 13 third-party agents, the WebUI, TUI, local EverOS memory and the experimental Curator.
Self-hosted: Runs on your own machine (Linux, macOS, WSL2, native Windows) via a one-line installer that sets up uv, Node.js 22+, Raven as a uv tool, Chromium and LibreOffice (installed on macOS, offered on Linux), or via docker compose -f docker/docker-compose.yml up. Requires Python 3.12+. Settings live in ~/.raven.
Paid: No paid Raven tier. You pay your model providers for every agent in the graph, and each built-in agent can run on the model it is tuned for, which needs its own key. EverOS Cloud (api.evermind.ai) is an optional hosted memory backend; its sign-up says 'Start Free, No credit card required' and no prices are published.
Free software; the bill is LLM tokens, multiplied by however many agents a task fans out to.
What to do by team size
- Solo
- free; one install script, bring an API key
- Small team
- free, for experiments only while it is pre-alpha
- Medium team
- free, but wait for a stable release before relying on it
- Large team
- free, but wait; no support, SLA or stable interfaces yet
