Screenshots, hung out to dry. A tiny native macOS app that hangs every screenshot on a line at the top of your screen.

Tendedero hangs every screenshot you take on a thin line just under the macOS menu bar, out of sight until you rest the pointer at the top of the screen. Click a shot to copy it, press and hold to mark it up, drag it into an app or folder, or drag it to the Trash to let it go. It's free, the code is MIT, and the whole app is 1.7 MB.

Setup is a signed, notarized DMG or brew install --cask alejandrobujan/tap/tendedero, on macOS 14 or later. On first launch it offers to take over your screenshots: no floating thumbnail, nothing landing on the Desktop, and your old settings come back when you quit. Screen recordings hang too, and you can trim them in place. No account, no network access, no analytics. Solo, small teams, bigger teams: free, with nothing to buy or deploy.

The catch: it's a shelf, not a screenshot tool. Capture still comes from macOS's own shortcuts and markup is Apple's Markup, so anyone wanting capture, annotation and share links in one app is shopping for CleanShot X. And the license reserves the name and icon, so a fork has to rebrand.

Free vs Self-Hosted vs Paid

fully free

Free: The whole app. No account, no paid tier, no in-app purchases. Code is MIT; the Tendedero name and icon are reserved by the author.

Self-hosted: Nothing to host. Download the DMG from GitHub Releases or install with Homebrew (brew install --cask alejandrobujan/tap/tendedero). Signed with a Developer ID and notarized. macOS 14 Sonoma or later, Apple silicon and Intel. Build from source with scripts/build-app.sh and the Swift toolchain.

Paid: No paid tier. tendedero.app is a browser demo and download page, not a store.

Free, with no paid tier or account. The only cost is that forks can't use the Tendedero name or icon.
