Search is a small Mac web browser built on Safari's own engine, from the design studio Office Commun. No toolbar, no account, no sync, just the page, with built-in ad and tracker blocking, reading mode, floating video, split view, and your Keychain passwords and passkeys. It even runs Chrome Web Store extensions on macOS 15.4 and later. MIT, free.

It's about 42,000 lines of Swift with no dependencies beyond what ships with macOS, so it stays light, and it installs through Homebrew. The download page says it's Apple Silicon only, on macOS 14 or later. Updates are signed and checked once a day.

Mac users who like Safari's battery life but want a quieter window and Chrome extensions: try it. Kagi's Orion is the more mature WebKit browser with extension support. Anyone who needs bookmarks and tabs synced to a phone: stay on Safari.

The catch: it's a brand-new 1.0 from a design studio, not a browser company. Engine security fixes arrive with macOS updates, but the app around the engine is young, and an opt-in AI feature is already on the way.
