The Open Source Drop Lens
Connects an AI assistant to an Oracle Database running on AWS RDS. It defaults to read-only transactions, allows writes only behind a flag, and supports schema introspection.
It lets an assistant query and explore an Oracle schema without hand-written SQL. A nice touch: it uses python-oracledb thin mode, so there is no painful Oracle Instant Client to install. Setup is still heavy, needing AWS credentials, RDS details, and logins in AWS Secrets Manager.
The server is free and Apache-2.0, running against an Oracle RDS instance you already pay for.
Maintained by AWS in the official awslabs/mcp repository.
Worth it for AWS shops running Oracle on RDS. It is scoped to RDS only, so a self-managed Oracle box is out of reach.
Cost Breakdown
**The MCP server:** Free and Apache-2.0.
**Underlying service:** Oracle Database on AWS RDS, which you already pay for (RDS plus Oracle licensing, license-included or BYOL). The server adds no incremental cost beyond your existing RDS instance.
Free and open source. The underlying service may have its own costs.
