PureMac clears the junk macOS accumulates: caches, logs, Xcode leftovers, Homebrew cruft, old mail attachments. Native SwiftUI, zero telemetry, free. It is the CleanMyMac replacement that does not charge $39.95 a year and does not phone home about what it found on your disk.

Nothing to self-host. Download, install, run. It shows you exactly what it intends to delete before it touches anything, and scheduled cleanups can run on their own. Since August there is also a separate CLI, installed with brew install momenbasel/tap/puremac-cli, that clears developer caches, purges project build artifacts, and reports what is eating your disk. That makes it scriptable, which matters if you want a cleanup step in a build or in your dotfiles. macOS 13 or newer, signed and notarized.

MIT licensed and publicly auditable, which is the entire argument for using this over a closed source cleaner you just granted full disk access. Solo developers with a cluttered Mac: obvious yes. Teams: there is nothing to administer centrally, so this is a recommendation you make per person, not a rollout you plan.

The catch: no malware scanning, no application uninstaller, no duplicate file finder. It cleans known junk paths well and does not pretend to be a full system utility suite. Releases also arrive fast and often, so if what you want is a boring tool that ships twice a year and never surprises you, this is not that.

Free vs Self-Hosted vs Paid

fully free

Free tier: Everything. The entire app is free, open source, MIT licensed.

Self-hosted: N/A. Desktop app, not a server.

Paid tier: None. No premium features, no subscriptions. Compare to CleanMyMac X at $39.95/year.

Completely free, app and CLI. CleanMyMac runs $39.95 a year for the same core cleaning.
