Postiz schedules posts to X, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, Bluesky and more from one calendar, with an AI copilot, analytics, and an API plus MCP server so Claude or ChatGPT can schedule for you. It replaces Buffer or Hootsuite, and the self-hosted edition is free under AGPL-3.0 with no feature gating, unlimited channels and unlimited team members.
Self-hosting is where the cost hides. The official compose file runs nine services, including Temporal and Elasticsearch. Then you register your own developer app on every network, and Meta, YouTube and TikTok approvals can take weeks. AI features need your own OpenAI key.
Postiz Cloud skips all that, but there's no free tier, just a 7-day trial. Standard is $29/month ($23 billed yearly) for 5 channels and no team members. Team is $39 ($31), Pro $49 ($39), Ultimate $99 ($79). Solo: Buffer's free plan (3 channels) is less work. Small teams: Cloud Team. Agencies with an ops person: self-host.
The catch: security. Postiz published more than a dozen advisories in 2026, several critical and unauthenticated, from a file read that hands over the instance to forged SUPERADMIN sessions and predictable OAuth tokens. All patched, so self-hosters need to update fast.
Free vs Self-Hosted vs Paid
free self hosted paid cloudFree: The self-hosted open-source edition is free under AGPL-3.0, with unlimited channels, posts and team members and the same features as the cloud ("We do not gate features"). There is no free cloud plan, only a 7-day free trial.
Self-hosted: The official docker-compose.yaml runs nine services: the Postiz app, Postgres, Redis, Temporal (with its own Postgres and Elasticsearch), Temporal admin tools and UI, and Sentry Spotlight. You create your own developer app on each social network and go through its review (Meta, YouTube and TikTok can take weeks); Postiz sells app-approval help as an optional service with no price on the pricing page. AI copilot, images and videos need your own OpenAI key and you pay the provider. AI video clipping also needs RunPod endpoints, Cloudflare R2 storage, an Oxylabs account and optionally Deepgram. You pull new images and run migrations yourself.
Paid: Postiz Cloud, billed monthly: Standard $29/month (5 channels, no team members, 3 AI videos and 60 minutes of AI video clipping per month, no AI images), Team $39/month (10 channels, unlimited team members, 100 AI images, 10 AI videos, 120 clipping minutes), Pro $49/month (30 channels, 300 AI images, 30 AI videos, 300 clipping minutes), Ultimate $99/month (100 channels, 500 AI images, 60 AI videos, 600 clipping minutes). Billed yearly the same plans cost $23, $31, $39 and $79 per month (about 20% off), and annual plans are not refundable. Every plan includes the API, webhooks, MCP server and CLI.
Self-hosting is free with every feature, but costs real ops time and weeks of social-app approvals. Cloud starts at $29/month ($23 billed yearly) for 5 channels, and anyone else logging in means Team at $39/month ($31 yearly).
