Mixpost schedules and publishes social posts from your own server, with a calendar, media library, post versions, and analytics that never phone home to anybody. It is a Buffer replacement you run yourself. The free Lite edition is MIT licensed and yours permanently.
It is a Laravel application, so you need PHP, a database, and a queue worker actually running for scheduled posts to fire. Docker images exist and take most of the pain out. Budget an afternoon for the first install and a recurring hour whenever you upgrade.
Here is the boundary that matters. Lite publishes to Facebook Pages, Mastodon, and X. That is the whole list. Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, Bluesky, and Google Business Profile all sit behind Pro at $299 one time for a single domain, with Enterprise at $1,199. Solo on X and Mastodon: Lite works. Anyone posting to Instagram or LinkedIn: you are buying Pro.
The catch is that the free tier gates the platforms most people came for, and the open source repo has been quiet since spring while the paid edition keeps moving. Still, $299 once is not $299 a year. Buffer's Team plan bills $10 per channel per month, so six channels runs $720 annually and Mixpost pays for itself inside of five months.
Free vs Self-Hosted vs Paid
open coreFree (Mixpost Lite): MIT licensed, self-hosted, no time limit and no user cap. Includes the calendar, media library, post versions, post labels, and basic analytics. Publishing is restricted to Facebook Pages, Mastodon, and X profiles.
Self-hosted: Laravel stack. PHP, a database, and a queue worker are required for scheduled publishing to work. Official Docker images are available. Realistic cost is your server plus roughly an afternoon of setup.
Paid: Pro is $299 one time, covering one domain or subdomain with one year of updates. It unlocks publishing to all supported platforms, multi-tenant support, basic white label, advanced analytics, an AI assistant, approval flow, hashtag manager, post templates, API, and webhooks. Enterprise is $1,199 one time and adds white label branding, subscription management, a customer dashboard, and automated billing. All tiers include a perpetual fallback license.
Free edition only posts to Facebook, Mastodon, and X. Instagram and LinkedIn cost $299 one time, which still beats Buffer's per-channel subscription within five months.
