BeautifulRust teaches your coding agent to write Rust like a careful Rust developer instead of someone wrestling the borrow checker. Three Agent Skills (write, review, and port from C, C++, Python, Go or JavaScript) plus a drop-in clippy config, distilled from five sources including the Rust API Guidelines and Effective Rust. MIT and free, for Claude Code, Codex, Copilot, Cursor and Gemini CLI.
Install is one command: npx skills add morganlinton/BeautifulRust. The lint config is the part I'd take even without an agent. It flags unwrap outside tests, unsafe without a SAFETY comment, bool parameters and lossy casts, and the repo ships a crate proving every lint fires.
Solo and small teams: free, install it today. Larger teams: put the clippy config in CI. In the author's benchmark Codex went from 53 to 76 of 85 checks with the skills, Claude Code from 72 to 80.
The catch: that benchmark is one run per configuration, graded by a Claude model, and the author says so. The skills made Claude worse on the Bevy task. And the lints are strict: drop them into an existing crate with -D warnings and your build lights up before it helps.
Free vs Self-Hosted vs Paid
fully freeFree: Three skills (rust-best-practices, rust-review, rust-port), the clippy/lints config, reference digests and eval cases, all MIT.
Self-hosted: Install with npx skills add morganlinton/BeautifulRust (Node 22.20 or later), the Claude Code plugin, gh skill install, gemini skills install, or by copying folders. The lints need clippy; allow_attributes lints need rust-version = "1.81" or later.
Paid: No paid tier. Running the bundled evals uses real model calls, which the README notes are billed to your agent account.
Free with no strings; the only cost is model usage if you run the evals yourself.
What to do by team size
- Solo
- free; one npx command
- Small team
- free; commit the clippy config so everyone gets the same rules
- Medium team
- free; enforce the lints in CI and expect a cleanup pass on existing crates
- Large team
- free; adopt the lints table selectively, drop the [lib] lints for applications
