superset
Code Editor for the AI Agents Era - Run an army of Claude Code, Codex, etc. on your machine
The Lens
If you need to build dashboards and explore data visually — charts, tables, SQL queries — without paying for Tableau or Looker, Apache Superset does that. Connect it to your database, write SQL or use the visual query builder, and create shareable dashboards.
It handles most common databases (Postgres, MySQL, BigQuery, Snowflake, ClickHouse) and the chart library is extensive. 8K+ stars, Apache project, used by Airbnb, Lyft, and others in production.
The catch: self-hosting Superset is where it gets real. Versioning is a beast — it is very easy to fall out of compliance with updates before you realize it. The Docker setup works but keeping it maintained takes genuine ops effort. And the learning curve for non-technical users is steeper than paid alternatives like Metabase or Looker.
Free vs Self-Hosted vs Paid
fully freeFully open source under Apache 2.0. No official paid hosted version from the Apache project. Preset (the company founded by Superset's creator) offers a managed cloud version starting around /user/mo.
Free self-hosted. Preset offers managed hosting if you want to skip the ops.
