Open Source Alternatives
All-in-one productivity platform for tasks, docs, goals, and chat.

ClickUp's lock-in is the workspace hierarchy. Tasks export as CSV, but the Space > Folder > List hierarchy, custom statuses, and ClickApps configurations need manual recreation. Teams using basic task management can switch in a few hours. Teams with complex workspace hierarchies, custom automations, and ClickUp Docs as their wiki should budget 1-2 weeks. The hidden cost is the feature bundle: ClickUp tries to be everything (tasks, docs, whiteboards, goals, chat), and leaving means deciding which specialized tools replace each function.

Plane is the open source alternative to Jira, covering sprints, kanban boards, and roadmaps without the Jira prices or the Linear waitlist. It's what Jira should have been: clean UI, fast, and you can self-host it.
OpenProject is the open source alternative. It covers traditional project management (waterfall, Gantt) and agile (Scrum boards, backlogs) in one tool.
ClickUp is a platform. It bundles multiple capabilities into one subscription. These tools each cover one piece. Teams often assemble 2–3 of them instead of paying for the full suite.
