Open Source Alternatives
Visual kanban board for project and task management by Atlassian.

Updated May 2026
Trello has minimal lock-in. Boards export as JSON with full card data, descriptions, attachments, and comments. The migration itself takes under an hour for most teams. The real friction is the Power-Ups: if your workflow depends on specific Power-Ups (GitHub, Slack, Salesforce integrations), you need equivalents in the new tool. Teams using basic Kanban boards switch in minutes. Teams with complex Butler automations and multiple Power-Up integrations should budget a few hours. The hidden cost is actually very low since Trello's core feature is the board/list/card structure that every project management tool supports.
